89x Nutcracker
89X is serving the entire Detroit metropolitan area with a big 100,000-watt signal. It has a high reach inside the southeastern Michigan and southwestern Ontario, Toledo, Ohio, metro area and the western Lake Erie shoreline of Ohio. The station, owing to its wide popularity, gets high ratings in Toledo.
There are lot many shows being sponsored under the banner of 89X around the Windsor/Detroit region. There are lot many bigger ones like the 89X Birthday Bash that in June and "The Night 89X Stole Christmas" show. This is always played near the beginning of December.
It was in 2006 that a special pre-show to the Night 89X Stole Christmas, known as 89X Nutcracker was played. However, it is very unclear that it will be continued in future years.
When the Night 89X Stole Christmas 9 featured My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Angels and Airwaves, OK Go, and The Hard Lessons (replacing Blue October) on December 14th, the 89X Nutcracker, on the night before on December 13th, hosted a hit shows like Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, and Cobra Starship.
The CIMX started off as CKWW-FM in July 1967. It has an easy listening format as its broadcast grounds. The station in 1970 changed its calls to CJOM. It adopted a free-form progressive rock format. This particular format continued until the 1980s. Then it was shifted to a new wave and then to top 40.
The beginning of 1990 witnessed the transformation of CJOM into CIMX. Initially, the CIMX was known as ‘The Mix' with an adult contemporary format. However, DJ Greg St. James started playing modern rock in the evening show from September 1990. It went as a major hit finally in May 1991, the modern rock format was adopted on full time grounds and ‘89X' was born.
At present juncture, CIMX could be heard while broadcasting a soft rock music programme. Canada's CHUM Limited owns CIMX since the late 1980s. Vince Cannova is the station's current programme director and operations manager. He was promoted from afternoon disk jockey to replace the departing Murray Brookshaw. Thus, 89x Nutcracker was a series of events that received wide acclaims and laurels for its exceptional playing.
With a wide reach of the radio station, the graph chart of popularity of 89X Nutracker also went higher with times and there were demands from the masses for the replaying of the series as the audiences felt emotionally attacked to the series owing to their exceptional diction in the playing.
