8Ball and MJG are a pair of rappers from Memphis whose partnership was forged in 1984 when they met at Ridgeway Middle School. The duo would go to sell 8Ball and MJG tickets and albums as the rap world went mainstream in the 1990s. The group was an early force in the Southern rap scene and officially entered the music world in 1991.
It took two years, but the two, whose real names are Premrose Smith (8Ball) and Marlon Jermaine Goodwin (MJG), released their debut album in 1993. Comin' Out Hard charted on the R&B charts, but failed to reach any kind of album sale certification. They would finally have their first Gold album in 1995, with their third album On Top of the World.
