98 Degrees
The quartet 98 Degrees was formed in Los Angeles by brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons, and Justin Jeffre. 98 Degrees were offered to sing on a local radio station after attracting attention while trying to crash the backstage area of a Boyz To Men show. The group met Paris d'Jon after the incident and he helped develop demos with them and sign them to Motown. "Invisible Man," the group's debut single, hit number 12 on the singles charts and went gold during 1997. This then led to the release of their self-titled debut album. In 1998, their second album, 98 Degrees and Rising, was released and went multi-platinum. This spawned hit singles like "Because of You," "The Hardest Thing" and "I Do (Cherish You)". followed by their third full-length, Revelation. The group co-wrote 11 of the album's 13 tracks, and the album title reflects the hard-earned lessons they've learned along the way. The guys' personal experiences also found their way onto the album. Nick Lachey made it known that the track "My Everything" is inspired by his relationship with Jessica Simpson. Looking back at the struggles they endured to make a mark on the music scene, all four guys admit that the tough times only bonded them more tightly as a group. In the month of October of 2000, 98 Degrees were sued by their former managers for $25 million.
