The Town of ‘Agawam’ is a city that is located in Hampden County, Massachusetts, United States. It forms a part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area and also includes a subsection, Feeding Hills. It comes under the Massachusetts 2nd Congressional District and the First Hampden and Hampshire Senate district.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.2 square miles (62.8 km²), of which, 23.2 square miles (60.2 km²) of it is land and 1.0square miles (2.6 km²) of it (4.09%) is water.

According to the census that was held in the year 2000, there were 28,144 people, 11,260 households, and 7,462 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,210.9 people per square mile (467.6/km²). There were 11,659 housing units at an average density of 501.6/sq mi (193.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.71% White, 0.91% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.98% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races and 0.80% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.83% of the population. There were 11,260 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present and 33.7% were non-families. 28.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.01.

The local residents of the city elect a Mayor and he becomes the leader of the city. There are 11 members in the City Council. The voters elect these members. The City Council is the official legislative branch of the town government.
