Andrew WK is a heavy metal rock star from Michigan, born on May 9 as Andrew Fetterly Wilkes Krier. It is widely assumed the WK he adopted as his stage surname, is derived from his last, but it has also been rumored to stand for "White Killer", "Woman Kum", and much more. The exact meaning is not known and it does not matter because he has become one of the most highly respected hard rock musicians of his day. Andrew began his tryst with music early on, taking piano lessons when he was four and growing up an active member of the Detroit punk and metal scene. He had been a part of bands up to the age of 17, when he began recording his own music. He moved to New York a year later and with the help of his friends, managing to circulate his demos among the record companies. Finally, Bulb signed him and he released AWKGOJ in 2000. The buzz about WK was growing so strong that he managed to bag an opening act during the Foo Fighters tour and was signed by the Island/Def in the U.S. and by Mercury Records in the UK. Both labels released his major label debut, "anthemic Party Hard" EP in 2001. He became an instant rage in the UK and even won over the local press, who were already singing his praise. His first full length album, "I Get Wet" was released in late 2001 in the UK. It was released in the United States in the spring of 2002. In the years since he has dabbled in television in addition to music, boasting contacts with Cartoon Network in addition to six studio albums. None have gone on to earn album certification, but he has released some very memorable songs. These included "I Get Wet" and "She is Beautiful".
