So I am simply obsessed with ESPN and the NBA, and that adoration is tied into one blinding vision that ties the two into one. I am like a giddy little girl who just found out daddy sprung for Jonas Brothers tickets. Really, I think “Mayne Street” is genius. The offbeat humor is enough to make me want to buy his book, even if the show is shameless self-promotion for his book An Incomplete and Inaccurate History of Sport.

Congratulations Grandma Palin! Governor Palin’s 18 year old daughter, Bristol, gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday. The baby’s name is Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston and he was born in the early morning, weighing in at a healthy 7 lbs. 7 oz. Baby and momma seem to be doing just fine. Tripp will fit right in with the rest of the Palin boys with his interesting “T” name. Bristol has brothers named Track and Trig (plus sisters Willow and Piper). Is it me or do they have L.A. names out there in Wasilla, Alaska? The parents are about to have a nice little next egg for their family. IT seems that in the new baby picture wars that Tripp may get about $300,000 for his debut. Not a bad way to start.

So I am writing the 2009 MLB Season Previews. I know it might be a little early, but apart from the always entertaining Manny Ramirez sweepstakes that apparently nobody is buying into, many of the major pieces are already in place. Yes a few worthy pitchers are left and a few good bats are there, so maybe we can call this an early, early season preview.

I have to say I am shocked to hear the rumors swirling about Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony again, but this time it sounds like it may be true, the couple is planning to divorce. What a shame, I really thought this was it for the both of them and they were really going to make it work this time. They seemed so happy and in love as far as Hollywood romances go.

The NFL postseason is set after an improbable Week 17. The Dallas Cowboys came into the week as the last wild card team for the NFC. Dallas’s hope for the playoffs was thwarted by the Philadelphia Eagles. It was clear before the game began that the Cowboys that their fate would be determined in a game that was without question the primetime game of the second afternoon game.

Well the big Christmas weekend box office numbers are in and all though most areas in the economy are suffering right now, the movie industry broke some records. The good news is that 5 big movies opened over the weekend and that was a record number in and of itself. Let’s start with “Marley and Me”, my personal favorite as well. I mean really, Jennifer Anniston, Owen Wilson, and an adorable pup; they couldn’t really go wrong, could they? This movie, from 20th Century Fox, generated 51.7 million dollars over the 4 day weekend. Not bad for a sweet romantic movie. Not only that, it seems that “Marley and Me” had the biggest Christmas day opening ever, of 14.75 million. The movie actually beat out “Ali”, which had held the record from back in 2001. I know, I couldn’t quite believe it myself.

The glorious world of the NBA has fans who adorn their walls with pictures of tremendous athletes who can work magic with an orange leather ball. How many guys have LeBron James posterizing some poor second string guy trying to earn a multi-year contract and not be remembered as a cringing face on a highlight reel? How many have people have Dwayne Wade on the wall twisting and contorting his way through the lane for level of basketball awe and impossibility.

Is it me or does it seem like the group Lady Antebellum have come out of nowhere? I have to admit that I have seen the name here and there but really didn’t have much of a clue until I saw them perform on the Today show on Christmas Eve. They were really quite good. They sang two songs, the holiday favorite “Baby Its Cold Outside” and “Love Don’t Live Here” which has been nominated for a Grammy. There are three people in the band, Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott. Their performance was basically vocals and guitar, and they did a great job. I think no one is more surprised and excited by the great year they have had then themselves. The 3 of them seemed to be quite star struck and pretty much in shock that they were sitting there chatting it up with Matt Lauer and Anne Curry.

Between Britney and Lindsay these girls just can’t stay out of the headlines. The latest Lindsay story is that dear old dad has given her a ½ sibling. On her MySpace celebrity blog Lindsay writes “My father just let my family and I know amongst others that he had another child after my little sister Aliana or maybe he had it before Aliana. Either way, he cheated on my mother and that really sucks”. Now here is where it all gets interesting on so many levels…first off on one hand Michael Lohan denies it, although he has admitted having an affair during his marriage to Dina Lohan which did result in a pregnancy, so he told OK magazine in an interview. I know that statement is confusing but that is how odd this story is. Then Michael Lohan believes that there is a 99% chance that Samantha Ronson wrote the message and not Lindsay at all. He feels that Samantha just wants to stir up trouble. He also feels that she is the reason that Lindsay is staying in LA for the holidays and not going home to spend it with her family..

Finally a bit of good news about Jennifer Hudson. She is going to perform live during Grammy week on February 6th. This will be Hudson’s first live performance since the tragic deaths of her mother, brother, and nephew two months ago. She will be singing at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala, which this year will be honoring Neil Diamond. Hudson is planning to sing a Neil Diamond song at the event. The MusiCares event takes place 2 days before the Grammy’s and in addition to Jennifer Hudson, there will also be performances by Coldplay, Josh Groban and Tim McGraw.

Is it me or have Hughes ex -girlfriends found love within minutes of leaving the Playboy mansion? Let’s start with Holly Madison, Heff’s main ex – girlfriend. She is now dating the anti – Heff. – bad boy looking Criss Angel. The two have both been celebrating birthdays together. Criss just turned 41 and Holly turns 29 on December 23. The two seem to be getting serious and Holly even gave Criss a paper ring. She says he won’t put it on, but that the minute he does she will be the one proposing to him. I guess all those years with the Heffster have her ready to settle down and have a family. Criss is pretty happy himself with the relationship and feels that all he needs is Holly in his life and all the other stuff doesn’t matter. Although it is weird to see her with someone else other then Heff, I say thank goodness, and I wish them all the best. The two will actually be spending New Years together in Las Vegas and it is the first time both of their family members are going to meet each other. Angel’s home base happens to be in Vegas and Holly has been splitting her time between Vegas and Los Angeles.

This story is so incredible I cannot even believe it. The Duggar family added to their brood of 17 children with a new baby girl this week. This new baby joins 10 brothers and 7 sisters. The mom, Michelle, is just 42 years old and literally has given birth every 18 months, which also equals 135 months of being pregnant during her 24 year marriage. All of the children have names that begin with the letter J and the new baby is no different, her name is Jordyn Grace. The family actually has their own show on TLC and it is pretty interesting to watch this family function. Amazingly the kids are very well behaved and well mannered and all do their share to help the household run smoothly. The family lives in Arkansas and for religious reasons decided to forgo birth control. Can you say fertile Myrtle??? It seems like all Mrs. Duggar need to do is think about getting pregnant and voila la another baby on the way. And get this, they may not be done. If it was to happen again, and I suspect that it might….the family would be thrilled to welcome more children into their home. Currently the ages of the children are 20, 18, 18, 17,16, 14,13, 12,11,9,9,8,7,6,4,3,1, and a few days old. All I can say is WOW!!! That is pretty amazing, no matter what your personal feeling are about this family

You can always find a Paris Hilton story and here is the latest. The heiress’s house was broken into at 5 a.m. this morning. Luckily Paris was not home and is said to have been still out partying from the previous night. Paris likes to party big and it is said that she started the night at dinner and then stopped by Christina Aguilera’s birthday party (which by the way was a Clockwork Orange themed party – interesting huh?) and then she headed off to Bar Delux. At the bar were Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Perez Hilton

While what I am about to write about is neither sports nor pure entertainment news I am compelled to write about it and add my 2 cents. This is truly a disturbing story…Drew Peterson is engaged! This is so outrageous I cannot even get over it for some many reasons. First of all let’s keep in mind that Drew Peterson has been married 4 times already and 50% of his wives have gone missing or murdered. Not great odds for his next potential wife. In addition to that, legally Peterson is still married to his 4th wife, Stacy, who has been missing since October 2007. He is also a suspect in her disappearance. His newest fiancé is 23 years old, the same age Stacy was when she went missing, and he is 54 years old.

Bryan Adams is about to extend his tour yet again and this time it’s for the Canadians benefit. Adams is currently finishing up his tour in the southern U.S. and is going to spend February and March touring throughout Canada in places like Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. Adams has been doing something unique throughout his tour and he is going to continue it while in Canada. He is actually going to be breaking up the tour into 2 parts. Part 1 takes place in February and for that he is going to do acoustic performances and then come March he will go back to the full – band arena tour. The acoustic tour is not new for him because that is what his final 11 shows in the U.S. will be as well as what he has done at different times along the whole tour. Adams says that playing “a song like, Cuts like a Knife” on acoustic guitar is quite different then hearing it with a full band”. He feels that seeing the show in the acoustic version “will give some insight into the songwriting, and it shows that some of the new songs blend in. It’s like one solid body of work”.

Comedian, David Spade, is hitting The Venetian, in Las Vegas for a limited run starting in January. The funny man will do one show a night that lasts approximately 75 minutes. His act features his real life situations that he turns into comedic stories. Spade is so sarcastic and has the best one liners around that the show is sure to be hysterical. Spade got his start as a cast member and writer on SNL back in 1990 and then as Dennis Finch for 6 years on the sitcom, Just Shoot Me. His next success came when he replaced John Ritter, after his sudden death, on the comedy, 8 Simple Rules, and now he currently stars in the sitcom, Rules of Engagement. And of course there all his crazy funny movies he has starred in like Tommy Boy and Black Sheep that he made with buddy Chris Farley. Spade has been fairly low key but a constant force in the acting world.

Yes that’s right, 4 hours of idol to remind you why America fell in love with this show in the first place. There will be some changes for season number 8 and those include less time spent watching all those crazy untalented contestants. Don’t worry you will get your fill just not weeks upon weeks of them. Also instead of 24 contestants coming to Hollywood to compete there will be 36.

Are you ready for some interesting news about one of country music’s hottest couples??
Tim McGraw is contemplating the idea of running for Governor of Tennessee. He could be the democratic candidate come the year 2010 or beyond. He already has Bill Clinton’s endorsement. Clinton thinks that people can really relate to McGraw and that McGraw can really understand their concerns as well as shares in their values. Hey crazier thing have happened in the political world, look at Ronald Regan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It doesn’t hurt to have someone with a high profile and already in the public eye to get elected. At this point who knows what will happen. Although McGraw is a famous country singer, with 10 albums and even a few acting gigs under his belt, he does not have any political experience.

Congratulations are in order for Bon Jovi and the boys, their Lost Highway tour just won top honors for highest grossing tour for 2008. Between Europe and North America they entertained, 2,157,675 fans and grossed $210.6 million! WOW! They are a band that has been around since the early 80’s and they are still going strong. They just keep getting better with age. The second place honor goes to Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band for their Magic Tour which grossed $204.5 million. Another oldie but goodie that shows no signs of slowing down. Some of the other top producers were Madonna and her Sticky and Sweet tour that grossed $162 million and The Police with a nice $150 million, plus Celine Dion was able to make it into the top 5 with $91 million. Some other fan favorites were Kenny Chesney with $86 million and Neil Diamond with $81.2 million. Now are you ready for the next highest grossing tour of the year…The Spice Girls with $70 million. I know I find this one to be unbelievable. In London alone for just 17 shows they produced $33.8 million. The girls had been out of the spotlight since 2001 yet when they announced their reunion tour it was Spice Girl mania all over again. Once the tour was over that was it, the girls went back to their lives as moms and doing their own thing and haven’t really been heard form since. I guess there is a lot to be said for Girl Power.

They’re back…. Elton John and Billy Joel are bringing back their Face 2 Face tour starting in March 2009. What a great pairing for the fans, to have two of the all time greats together again. It is said that the concert will open with several duets including two all time favorites “Piano Man” and “Rocket Man”. The two performers will be seated at twin pianos while sharing the songs. Then in typical Face 2 Face fashion they will split up, with each musician doing his own set before teaming up again along with both of their bands for what should be a spectacular grand finale.

Well it’s a cat fight, sort of.
Lily Allen is at it again. This time she is calling out Katy Perry. Here is the latest scoop. Basically it seems that Katy Perry was asked by someone to describe herself and she said “I am like a fatter version on Amy Winehouse and a skinnier version of Lily Allen.” Well this seemed to have really ticked of Lily Allen. In addition to being upset about the fat comment, Allen shared how she really feels about Katy Perry by saying she is crass and that Katy Perry is actually “an American version of me”, just trying to steal her image. Allen also told her to write her own music and to “shut up” Both women are signed to the same label Capitol. So it has definitely gotten a bit heated between the American and the Brit. And really if we are talking crass - aren’t both their lyrics a bit over the top?

Yesterday, after being named the city of the year by GQ Chicago was dealt several blows that might demand the national magazine rescind its proclamation. The editors chose the city because it had been the political home to the president elect and has experienced a comeback as the backdrop for major movies, but Monday a trifecta of blows quickly kicked out the pedestal and let the city wallow in the muddy waters at the bottom of the giant hole where the Chicago Spire, an architectural abomination that brought the city’s skyline back to the national conscious, was supposed to stand.

What a treat… I just watched a live performance on the Today Show, of “Shrek The Musical” that opens in New York on Broadway this Sunday, December 14th. I have been hearing good things about the show and lots of excitement about the opening but now that I have seen a sneak peek I cannot wait. The Today show featured a song sung by 3 lovely Fiona’s including the main star, Tony Award winner, Sutton Foster. She was accompanied by 2 younger performers Leah Greenhaus and Marissa O’Donnell as younger Fiona’s. They did awesome and the costumes and sets look amazing. In fact the day before Meredith Vieira went behind the scenes with Brian d’Arcy James who plays Shrek. Besides all the belching and tooting (but hey what do you expect from an ogre) they have created an amazing looking Shrek. He looks just like you would hope he would look. Brian showed Meredith the famous swamp, Fiona’s moving tower and the very cool magic mirror mask.

Coldplay is the band to see if you are in the Australia area this winter. The band originally was set to play only 2 shows in Melbourne in March but has added a 3rd and in Sydney, 2 more shows have been added for a total of 4 in that city. A 2nd show was also added in Perth, plus there are 2 shows scheduled in Brisbane. There was just a huge demand for tickets during the presale window so Chugg Entertainment decided to immediately add more shows and make more tickets available. The interest that Coldplay is generating is huge and really much more then the production company had anticipated. Not only is this great for the band but it is great for the fans because it is a great show, in fact the production manger Jon Pope says” this is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my 30 years of touring.” Can’t beat a comment like that. It is just so awesome for the band. Last time they were in Australia was in 2006, so the fans are ready for their return.

The Black Eyed Peas are going to be hitting the road again in 2009. Finally! The Peas have not toured together in the states since their Honda Civic Tour in 2006. The group plans to start touring again sometime in May or June of 2009 just in time to promote their new album “The Energy Never Dies” that is due out in March. The best news of all is that Fergie will be back to join the group on tour. She actually was only supposed to be a guest singer with the group on “The Elephunk” album but she hit it off so well with the band that they asked her to become a permanent member of the band. Fergie, who is one of my all time favorite performers, has done a great job on her own as well. Her solo album “Dutchess”, which she released in 2006, went triple platinum, and hit #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. She is also engaged to the very handsome, Josh Duhamel. Fergie is very excited to get back on the road with the band and said “our show needs to be f*ckin ridiculous this time. We need to put together a monster show”. Fans will be thrilled about that.

If you want to see Nine Inch Nails on tour you better hurry because after they complete there tour dates in 2009 that will be it for now. At this point the band has stated that they will be taking an indefinite hiatus from touring. They have been touring for a long time and they are ready for a break. The band, which is known for outrageous tour productions have also stated that they are going to be scaling back all that craziness as well in their upcoming performances. This last tour they have been on, “Lights in the Sky”, has literally been just that. The show has included an amazing interactive light show, and the band has been able to do very innovative things with the lights like shining them on these huge screens that just go across the whole stage. It is really something to be seen, but with the scaling back all that will probably be affected.

The hottest ticket in town is the one for President Elect, Barack Obama’s, Inauguration and it is about as hard to get these days as a ticket to the Super Bowl. The Inauguration isn’t until January 20th and tickets not only are not available yet but haven’t’ even been printed up. For security reasons they won’t even be handed out until a week before the event. Each member of the House of Representatives should get about 200 tickets and it is up to them how to hand them out. This is a huge task. The offices of the Representatives are fielding hundreds of calls from people looking for tickets. There are a total of 240,000 tickets available and residents from each congressional district can ask for tickets but who knows how they decide who gets the lucky ticket. At this point having a lottery or giving tickets out based on the order the calls came in are options for handing them out.

All we know so far is that his new, yet untitled album, will be released on March 31 (yippee!) and a tour will follow starting in May and go through the summer. And he won’t be alone; several other artists are set to accompany him at different times throughout his tour. IT is said that Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Glen Campbell, Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum and Zac Brown Band are all on board. The fans are so excited about this new album and tour and already the first single “Sweet thing” has sold over 64,000 downloads in just 2 weeks.

This is the season where young and old flock to see The Nutcracker. As a young girl I remember falling in love with the Nutcracker and the beautiful ballerinas in their amazing costumes. If anything will get you in the spirit of the season it is this show. You re just immediately transported into the world of toys and marching toy soldiers, lovely children and sugar plum fairies.
