Amp Energy 500 Tickets The AMP Energy 500 is held annually at Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama, while being the 33rd race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, and the seventh race in Sprint's Chase for the Cup. The AMP Energy 500 is arguably the most consistently competitive race in NASCAR history, having broken the 40 mark for official-lead-changes 17 times in its 39-year history (1971, 1973, 1975-78, 1983-84, 1989, 2000, and 2003-09); with ten of the events actually having also surpassed 50 lead-change point. The AMP Energy 500 also has the distinction as one of four restrictor plate races, with the others being the Aaron's 499, the Coke Zero 400, and the Daytona 500. From 1969 to 1996, the race was regularly held in late July or early August, but in 1997 due to mounting fan requests, it was moved to early October in order to avoid the uncomfortable hot summer temperatures and unpredictable thunderstorms at that time of year in the Alabama area. Re-named for 2008, the AMP Energy 500 experienced a first in the history of all of motorsports, with a race that saw 64 lead changes between a record 28 drivers! Two wrecks, each involving ten cars, took a number of key competitors out of contention. The race ended with Regan Smith passing Tony Stewart on the tri-oval apron at the finish, but NASCAR ruled the pass illegal since it took place below the yellow line. Stewart was awarded the win, in what ended up as his final victory for Joe Gibbs Racing. The event was moved again in 2009, this time to November 1st as part of a realignment agreement with Atlanta and Fontana; Fontana gained a race in The Chase and Atlanta would again host a race on Labor Day weekend. The thrilling 2009 race was won by Jamie McMurray, but only after having seen 58 lead changes among 25 different drivers – both numbers being season highs.

 Dating back to its debut in 1969, then known simply as the Talladega 500, the race has seen many stock car legends and quite a few notable moments, such as in 2005 when during the driver introductions, "Ricky Bobby" and other characters were introduced in order to complete scenes for the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Additionally noteworthy, it seems as though the Earnhardts have a special talent for finding Victory Lane at the AMP Energy 500. Between the late Dale Sr. and current fan favorite Dale Jr., the father-son pair accounts for one-quarter of the forty wins here since 1969; Dale Earnhardt (1983-84, 1990-91, 1993, 1999, 2000) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (2001, 2002, 2004). Talladega Superspeedway is always a thrilling site for NASCAR, and with the AMP Energy 500 there is even more at stake as the drivers near the end of The Chase.
