On a normal race day at Dover it is possible to see quite an assortment of different strategies play out – the race can be won by charging hard all day, by laying back and conserving the car's tires for the finish, or even by strategic fuel management. No one can ever really be sure what might determine the outcome at any Dover race until the waving of the checkered flag.

|
 In the 2009 Autism Speaks 400, Jimmie Johnson's #48 Lowe's team decided upon a rather unique race strategy by choosing the very last pit stall. This strategy proved perfect as Johnson led nearly three-fourths of the race (298 laps), before taking the win by passing Tony Stewart with three laps to go – after battling back from seventh place on the final pit stop under caution, which had initially cost them the lead in the first place. During the 2008 Autism Speaks 400 the Monster Mile attacked early, in the form of an early wreck which damaged many of the top cars. With less traffic, the track was then opened up for long runs under the green – the final 154 laps were run under the green flag – with Kyle Busch dominating the remaining field on his way to Victory Lane. Beside the fact that this race is for a great cause, there is also a breathtaking unpredictability which always seems to be the norm at Dover International Speedway, so get your tickets now and be there for the 2010 Autism Speaks 400, scheduled for May 16th in Delaware.
