Formerly known as the LifeLock 400 in 2008 and 2009, the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 is one of two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races held at the Michigan International Speedway; the other being the CARFAX 400 in August. The 200-lap race is held annually in June and, as the 15th official date on the calendar, marks the midway point in determining who will qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup beginning in October.
Throughout its history, this particular race has been run at a few different distances and now under 23 different names since its debut race in 1969. For a long time the race was sponsored by the Miller Brewing Company, and therefore the name switched between different variations containing the word "Miller" from 1984 to 1998. In 2008 and 2009, the race name was changed to the LifeLock 400 after its previous sponsor LifeLock, an identity theft protection company, before changing to the Heluva Good! moniker for 2010.
The 1999 race, won by Dale Jarrett, went without a caution and, at an average speed of 173.997 mph, also setting the all-time NASCAR record for a 400-mile race. The race has had its share of legendary participants; including multiple-race winners, some of which also having won in consecutive years, and one with a record six total victories! This list of historic Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 winners, which reads like a NASCAR Hall of Fame list, includes Bill Elliott (1985-86, 1989), Bobby Allison (1971, 1981), Cale Yarborough (1969-70, 1977, 1978, 1982-83), Dale Earnhardt (1987, 1990), Davey Allison (1991-92), David Pearson (1972-73, 1975-76), Mark Martin (1998, 2009), and Rusty Wallace (1988, 1994, 1996).
