Honda Grand Prix Tickets The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is the second racing event of the Izod IndyCar schedule. It takes the racing teams on a street circuit that utilizes the public streets of the city of St. Petersburg, FL, the landing strips at Albert Whitted Airport, and the Progressive Energy Park (the local spring training facility for the Tampa Bay Rays) parking lot. The streets of St. Petersburg were first appropriated for racing in 1985 for the SCCA Trans-Am Series. The race was discontinued after 1990 due to noise complaints. The Trans-Am Series made a brief comeback from 1996 to 1997, this time folding to dissatisfaction with the course instead of neighborhood complaints. The Honda Grand Prix arrived as part of the Champ Car schedule in 2003. The race jumped a year after promoters failed to rally around the event. Then, in 2005 the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg returned under the banner of the IndyCar Series. This was a notable addition for the racing league since it became the first non-oval racing event on the schedule. That race has become something bigger than a single IndyCar race. Now the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) runs endurance and sprint races in conjunction with the IndyCar race.

 Good news came in 2008 when Andretti Green Promotions took over the race operations. They immediately signed an extension that will bring racing fans back to St. Petersburg until at least 2013. Graham Rahal of the Newman/Haas Racing team won the promotion company's first year as the operators and Ryan Briscoe of Team Penske won the second year in 2009. This year the Honda Grand Prix will take place on March 28, 2010. The 1.8 mile track of public streets, landing strips, and parking lots will surely garner much more interest than normal since IndyCar and its chief open wheel racing organization rival, Champ Car World Series, have merged.
