Honda Indy Toronto Tickets The Honda Indy Toronto is one of two Canadian courses on the IndyCar circuit. The race takes drivers on a street course with twists and turns on Princes Boulevard, Manitoba Drive, and Ontario Drive and up a long straightaway along Lake Shore Boulevard, the street that gives fans with tickets a great view of Lake Ontario. The first sanctioned race in the Toronto metro area occurred in 1977. Then it was known as the Molson Diamond Indy and was run by the USAC, the major open wheel racing league of the time. This race actually took place at the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario. Eventually the race moved to the city of Toronto itself and utilized its streetscape to provide a course. Tragedy struck in 1996 when driver Jeff Krosnoff died in a crash that also took the life Gary Avrin and injured Barbara Johnston. Avrin had volunteered to serve as corner marshal and Johnston served as a marshal during the race. The course eventually put the tragedy behind it, though the tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers of automobile racing.

 Like many races, the course takes the name of its sponsor and changes it accordingly. The race that began as the Molson Diamond Indy became the Molson Grand Prix of Toronto in 2006 and the Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto in 2007. The current name, the Honda Indy Toronto was reached after Honda struck a deal with the race operators, the Andretti Green Racing team who purchased the rights to the race after a lack of support led to the cancelling of the race in 2008. The 2009 race celebrated the return of the event with a victory by Dario Franchitti of the Chip Ganassi Racing team. The 2010 Honda Indy Toronto will take place on July 12 and begin at 1 p.m. ET.
