Iowa Corn Indy 250 Tickets The Iowa Corn Indy 250 is one of the fastest races in the open wheel circuit on one of the fastest tracks. The Iowa Speedway is a mere 7/8 of a mile and the race is just 250 laps long, making the race tickets something bought for a short day, since the total distance is only 218.75 miles. While some may complain that this is far too short for an IndyCar event, the Iowa Corn Indy 250 follows two marathon races, the Indianapolis 500 and the Bombardier Learjet 550. The race is the perfect addition to schedule, balancing a need for driving skill and stamina with a need for speed. The race is not the first open wheel race to take place in Iowa. The first race took place on July 9, 1915. The course was even shorter than the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at 100 miles and took place in Burlington at the Tri-State Fair Grounds. Years later, racing returned to Iowa at the Des Moines Speedway, but the track lasted only two races before being torn down.

 The inaugural Iowa Corn Indy 250 took place on June 23, 2007. This young race is the first of many tracks added to the IndyCar circuit in recent years as the auto racing sport has exploded in popularity. Dario Franchitti of the UK took first place in that first race, driving for the Andretti Green Racing team. Fellow Brit, Dan Wheldon took the pole the second year, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. The 2009 race took place on June 20 and the Chip Ganassi Racing team took the trophy again, again thanks to the driving of Dario Franchitti.
