The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is the fourth race in the IndyCar racing schedule, but it is perhaps better known as the Long Beach Grand Prix. The Long Beach Grand Prix has been run since 1975 as apart of the Formula 5000 racing schedule and has outlasted several racing organizations, always finding a new home in the case that the organization folds.

The reason the last outlasts the league is simple: the event draws over 200,000 people during the grand prix's racing weekend. The event itself is more important than the type of car speeding along the 1.968-mile street circuit. The event is so popular because it is the first street course run in any open wheel racing circuit in the United States. The event takes drivers throughout the streets surrounding the Convention Center of Long Beach. The most notable section takes the drivers out a hairpin turn and along a slight bend along the waterfront in section lined with palm trees.

Most recently in 2009, the Long Beach Grand Prix was adopted by the newly formed IndyCar league, a merger of the rival Champ Car World Series and the IRL IndyCar Series. The event seemed destined to be included in the merger, but a scheduling conflict pitted the Long Beach race against the race at the Twin Ring Motegi track in the 2010 racing schedule.
