Pocono 500 Tickets Held each year sometime during the first half of June, the Pocono 500 is the first of two Sprint Cup NASCAR races held at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania; the other being the Pennsylvania 500, which usually takes place in July. Both the Pennsylvania 500 and Pocono 500 have remained unique since, for many years, they have often used traditional generic or regional titles and not utilized a title sponsor – the Pocono from 1997 to current, and the Pennsylvania from 1997 to 2007 before partnering with Sunoco and the American Red Cross. The Pocono 500 replaced a 400-mile race on the NASCAR schedule at Texas World Speedway beginning with the 1982 season, and then moved to the former USAC Marlboro Championship Trail date in June, thus forcing a move to August for the open-wheel Indy cars. The 2.5 mile tri-oval track at Long Pond is one of the most unique and popular venues found on the Sprint Cup Series schedule; with the longest straightaway of any of the other NASCAR tracks on the schedule, the Pocono 500 is always sure to provide plenty of lead changes along the way.

 Since the inaugural Pocono 500 in 1982, the race has seen six multiple-race winners take the checkered flag, three of which also have consecutive victories. This list of legendary victors includes Bobby Allison in 1982 and 1983; Tim Richmond in 1986 and 1987; Terry Labonte in 1989 and 1995; Jeremy Mayfield in 1998 and 2000; Jeff Gordon in 1996, 1997, and 2007; Tony Stewart in 2003 and 2009.
