Sprint All Star Race History
The Sprint All-Star Race is divided into segments with variable lap totals, so winning one segment will not necessarily guarantee an overall victory. Maybe the best thing about the Sprint All-Star Race is that fans will witness the drivers competing only for pride and bragging rights, instead of Cup championship points; a mindset which often results in the drivers making moves they may not normally make under ordinary Sprint Cup season circumstances. Trading paint is normal, bumping people out of the way is common practice, and frequent crashes are likely.
Same site, original name; in February 1999, Lowe's purchased the naming rights to the Charlotte speedway, making it the first race track in the country to have a corporate sponsor. However, Lowe's has chosen not to renew those naming rights after the 2009 NASCAR season, leaving the track to go back to its original name, Charlotte Motor Speedway, for 2010.
