‘Battle Creek’ is a city of Michigan State in the USA. It is situated in the northwest Calhoun County at the confluence of Kalamazoo and Battle Creek Rivers. It is a major city of the Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area encompassing entire Calhoun County.

This city is renowned as ‘Cereal City’ for its distinct identity of being home to the world headquarters of Kellogg Company. It is home to the Post Cereals that was once part of the General Foods Corporation, and now a part of Kraft Foods.

Battle Creek has its literary importance as well. It featured in a novel, The Road to Wellville by T.C. Boyle that was later adapted into a film. There was a strong support to merge Battle Creek Township with the Battle Creek city in 1982. The move was undertaken by the Kellogg Company that gave an ultimatum that in case merging was not done, it could shift its headquarters away from Battle Creek.

This town is the 3rd largest city in Michigan in terms of area after Detroit and Grand Rapids. Its declining population rose tremendously when Battle Creek Township merged with it in 1983. This population explosion happened with the arrival of nearly 18,000 new residents. But its population has started declining once again.

According to the US Census Bureau, Battle Creek has a total area of 43.7 square miles, out of which 42.8 square miles is land area and 0.8 square miles is water. As per the 2000 census, it has a total population of 53,364 with 21,348 households and 13,363 families residing in the city area. Its population density is 1,246.0 per square mile.

Battle Creek has a racial makeup of 74.65% Whites, 17.80% Black or African Americans, 1.94% Asians, 0.77% Native Americans, 0.01% Pacific Islanders, 2.11% from miscellaneous races and 2.72% from two or more races. It has 4.64% Hispanic population. Its sex ratio is for every 100 females there are 91.9 males whereas for every 100 females aged 18 and over there are 87.2 males.
