Out in Los Angeles there exists a trio belting out California pop tunes on top of a dirty garage guitar and a rock drum set. This band is Best Coast and the indie pop/garage pop/surf pop sound has brought this group to the consciousness of music fans around the nation. Best Coast tickets sell well for this group thanks to that infectious merger of rock genres.

Best Coast is comprised of lead singer Bethany Cosentino, talented instrumentalist Bobb Bruno, and the rare female drummer Ali Koehler. The group came to be after Costentino and Bruno met. Bruno had been assigned the duty of producing tracks for Costentino's band Pocahaunted. The two found a fondness for the same sort of lo-fi surf rock and had instant musical chemistry. The group earned acclaim thanks to Pitchfork, who named "Boyfriend" the best new track and celebrity fans like Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and Bill Murray.

This publicity led to a record deal with Mexican Summer, a record label located across the country in New York City. The duo eventually added Koehler, the former drummer for the Vivian Girls, when it became clear they would need a drummer for live performances.
