Big Boi is the far more hip hop half of Outkast, a preference demonstrated in his first fully solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. The 2010 solo project comes seven years after his first unofficial solo work, the Speakerboxxx half of the 2003 Outkast double album. Big Boi tickets will be available in 2010 as he brings his funkier version of hip hop, sometimes called alternative hip hop, to the road.
He first showed an interest in music after moving to Atlanta and meeting Andre "3000" Benjamin, his future duo-mate in Outkast. Big Boi preferred to create songs with a hip hop feel, but with lyrics celebrating a message telling of the struggles of the African-American population and not exalting the culture of wealth.
Big Boi had four projects with Outkast before he struck out on his own. His first solo effort, Speakerboxxx, with Andre 3000's The Love Box in a double album. He struck an unlikely hit with "The Way You Move." The song moved from urban radio to the mainstream and dethroned Andre 3000's "Hey Ya!" as the number one song on the pop charts.
