The band is comprised of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena Jr., and Logan Henderson. BTR, as the band came to be known, signed the record deal with Columbia Records as the signed with Nick to produce a show by the same name, Big Time Rush. The show follows the fictional Hollywood misadventures of four hockey players from Minnesota. As a group, they dabbled in pop, R&B, pop rock, and every variation down to dance-pop.

This fortuitous signing in 2009 eventually led to the release of the debut album, BTR. The recording, released on October 11, 2010, reached number three on the Billboard 200 and went gold in the U.S. and Mexico. A month later the boy band released the Holiday Bundle (EP). Singles like "Big Time Rush", "Halfway There", "City is Ours", and "Til I Forget About You". Big Time Rush built upon this success with a second album, EP, and a new barrage of music, this time featuring established artists.

BTR released "Boyfriend" with the help of Snoop Dogg and "Music Sounds Better With U" with the help of Mann. The group hopes Elevate and Big Time Movie Soundtrack EP will further their success and have already planned extensive tour schedules to enjoy Big Time Rush tickets.
