Biohazard came out of New York City with a unique sound, a little bit hardcore punk, a little bit heavy metal, and a little bit hip hop. The result was a group that sold tickets around the world in the late ‘80s and throughout the ‘90s. The group started off as the collaboration of Evan Seinfeld (bass/vocals), Bobby Hambel (guitar), and Anthony Meo (drummer) in Brooklyn. Before long Billy Graziadei joined to add another guitarist and vocalist. The group became popular on the New York hardcore scene and they made headlines in the news because of allegedly Aryan lyrics. Evan Seinfeld, who is Jewish, and the rest of the band admitted that the songs in question were a publicity stunt and began to play songs with messages that promoted tolerance and anti-racism.
The real breakthrough for the group came in 1992, when their second album, Urban Discipline, was released on their second label, Roadrunner Records. The album and the single "Punishment" introduced Biohazard to the world. More tickets sold along with more albums and soon they reached platinum status and became a fan favorite on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. The group became a staple in the heavy metal and hardcore punk community, playing at Ozzfest and at the Monster of Rock festival.
As the band continued to tour and release albums, Biohazard cycled through lineups and through record labels. The group went through Warner Bros., Mercury Records, and Sanctuary Records, with periodic signings with independent labels. The constant touring the group needed to do took a toll on the members. Some found other outlets, like Seinfeld who appeared in the HBO series Oz and in porn. He eventually found his wife, Tera Patrick, in the adult industry. By 2006, Biohazard had apparently run its course and the group disbanded.
