In November 2009 Glenn Hughes and Jon Bonamassa decided to take a years work to the next level and develop a band out of a simple duo. The group would be four strong to avoid the pitfalls of a power trio and would be entitled Black County Communion, paying homage to the English county from which Hughes came. Rounding out the group were Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian. This quartet of rock demigods would collaborate to release their debut album, Black County, on September 20, 2010 and sell Black County Communion tickets for the promotional tour to follow.
Glenn Hughes is famous for playing bass for Deep Purple, singing lead for Black Sabbath in the 1980s, and a number of other solo efforts. Jon Bonamassa is a famous guitarist and singer whose solo career has perhaps earned more respect from musicians than the listener population as a whole. Jason Bonham is a drummer and son of the Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. He has played with the remaining members of Zeppelin for a reunion tour and has an extensive musical resume. Derek Sherinian is a rock keyboardist well known for performing with Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Kiss, and Alice in Chains. Together these four make up Black County Communion, a super group that perhaps more of a super group's super group than a typical fan's super group.

They quickly found time to work in the recording studio and released Black County on September 20, 2010. The album immediately landed on the Billboard 200 and fans were pleased to learn a tour is planned in 2011 to promote the album. Hughes and Bonamassa were the primary songwriters for this album and Hughes has already announced he is working on writing material for a second Black County Communion album.
