Black Milk is the hip hop moniker of Curtis Cross, a producer and MC from Detroit. An up-and-coming proponent of Midwestern hip hop, Cross (born August 14, 1983) has been fighting his way through to becoming a recognizable hip hop figure since 2004. He has not made it quite yet, but he has made it onto the charts and now can sell Black Milk tickets in just about any hip hop venue around the country.
Prior to 2004, Black Milk started out in the control booth, helping to produce a compilation by Slum Village. He worked with renown artists like J Dilla, Elzhi, Frank-N-Dank, Lloyd Banks, and Phat Kat. In 2004 he stepped into the recording booth with Young RJ and Fat Ray as the group B.R. Gunna to record Dirty District Vol. 2. Black Milk ventured out on his own soon after and released his debut solo album, Sound of the City. The album led to a deal with Fat Beats Records, an independent label distributing through Koch Entertainment.
Black Milk quickly released an EP and first work under the Fat Beats Records umbrella, Broken Wax. Broken Wax led to his second album, Popular Demand. The album did not launch his career, but him afloat. His first hit came in 2008. Tronic, his third album, peaked at number 76 on the Billboard R&B Charts.
