This band is particularly praised for its songwriting. Black Stone Cherry's songwriting features particularly strong storytelling to deliver a strong message.
Black Stone Cherry formed in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky thanks to an impressive pedigree. Chris Robertson (lead singer and guitarist) and John Fred Young (drummer), the son of the hard rock legends The Kentucky Headhunters rhythm guitarist Dicky Young, began playing together as teenagers. The two added Ben Wells (rhythm guitarist) and Jon Lawhon (bassist) and suddenly Black Stone Cherry became a fully functioning band. They used their family connections to take over the Kentucky Headhunters practice house.
