His music falls somewhere between metalcore and hip hop, a sort of Southern rap with a gangsta rap edge. Boondox is simply the answer south of the Mason-Dixon to the Insane Clown Posse, the very rap group that ended up signing the rapper (whose real name is David Hutto) to their label, Psychopathic Records. Boondox tickets have steadily increased their sales as he has made himself known as a solo artist and as part of a collaborative group from the label, otherwise known as Psychopath Rydas.
Boondox is the stage persona for Hutto. On stage he is a malevolent scare crow with a murderous streak. Off stage he is, or was, a maladjusted man, shaken to his core after his uncle tried to drown him when he was five years old. Growing up in Richmond County, Georgia, he grew up an outcast, finding solace in heavy metal music and playing bass for local metal bands.
At the same time Hutto was playing and listening to heavy metal, a new genre-bending group was gaining popularity, or at least notoriety, the Insane Clown Posse. Hutto transformed himself into Boondox, a make-up clad, cowboy hat-wearing scare crow and would sell cassettes of his material in he parking of the shows of ICP. Ultimately, the band heard his material and signed him to their label.
