Artist Biography - Bucky Pizzarelli
John "Bucky" Pizzarelli was born on April 6th,1960 in Paterson, New Jersey. He started playing guitar at the age of six been inspired by his father and a guitar legend, Bucky Pizzarelli. Because of this John was exposed to all the great jazz artists ranging from Erroll Garne and Les Paul to Django Reinhardt. At the age of 17, he began his musical career with the Vaughn Monroe dance band. Throughout 1951, he toured along with the band and in the year 1952 he joined as a staff musician with NBC. There he played with the Severinson Band on the Tonight Show for several years.Along with that he toured with Benny Goodman in the 80's.
In New York, John played as a freelance musician and he was in great demand as a musician and used to provide background rhythm for other musicians as well. In the 1970's he has his own releases like the Green Guitar Blues. With this release he started a repeated pattern of playing some of the historical classical guitar composiitions of the 1930's. Through his music he paid homage to guitarists like Carl Kress and Dick McDonough.
John is a versatile artist and has had a career as a jazz-vocallist, guitarist and bandleader. He is internationally acclaimed for his cool jazz performances in the late night ballads. Not only that he has made a mark for himself as an entertainer and a radio host recently with the program, "Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli" which is co-hosted by his wife Jessica Molaskey.
With this show he brought about a lot of warmth, humour and a fresh feeling to the live radio which had lost it's old charm. This show is played in the living room basically where he and his guests play live and recorded music iamidst a friendly and relaxed ambience with a informal conversation.
