Buzzfest History
The Buzz has been throwing these massive alternative rock concerts since 1995 when the big names in alternative were Bush, Our Lady Peace, and Matthew Sweet. Buzzfest quickly grew, attracting bigger names each passing year. In 2001 Buzzfest became a biannual event, organizing rock festivals in the spring and the fall. Then, in 2009, the music festival became even bigger, adding a side stage to the spring show.
Throughout Buzzfest's history, the music festival has been held at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The pavilion is located in the Woodlands, Texas, which is a northern suburb of the city of Houston. The pavilion is the perfect venue for a rock festival of this size. It holds 17,000 in its open air seating with plenty of space in the lawn behind the seats.
The music festival has only had to cancel one of these shows. The Buzzfest scheduled for fall 2008 was canceled after Hurricane Ike ravaged the Houston area and damaged the pavilion. The Buzz quickly through together a show at the Verizon Wireless Theater, but the radio station returned to Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion the following spring and has remained ever since.
