The Cardigans was formed in the October of 1992. The band was formed by the members Peter Svensson on lead guitar, Bengt Lagerberg on drums, Nina Persson for vocals, bass by Magnus Sveningsson, keyboards and guitar by Lars-Olof "Lasse" Johansson. The band members resided in a small apartment where they recorded a demo tape. The tape was heard by producer Tore Johansson and gave the the band an invitation for recording in a studio in Malmö. The first album by the band was titled 'Emmerdale'. The album was released on 18th September, 1994 in their home country Sweden while in Japan it was released on 24th September. Five years later the album had an European release while in the United States it was released in August of 1999 and had some bonus songs from the second album of the group. The original album had twelve songs such as Our Space, Last Song, Sick & Tired, Over the Water, Celia Inside, Seems Hard , Black Letter Day, Rise & Shine, In the Afternoon, Cloudy Sky, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and After All.... In 1994 The Cardigans embarked on an extensive touring of Europe. The second album of the group was released in 1995 titled 'Life'. The album was a very bi hit in the international market. In Japan it went on to become a platinum album. In Sweden 'Life' had elev songs such as Pikebubbles, Closing Time, Carnival, Beautiful One, Sunday Circus Song, Travelling With Charley, Gordon's Gardenparty, Hey! Get Out Of My Way, Daddy's Car, Fine and Tomorrow.

The Cardigans after the success of their second album were signed to Mercury Records. The third album of the band was ' First Band On The Moon' again scoring more success for the band. In Japan it became a platinum album. The album had songs like Step on Me, Choke, Your New Cuckoo, Never Recover, Iron Man, Great Divide, Heartbreaker, Losers, Happy Meal II, Been It and Lovefool. In United States of America it turned out to be a platinum album and in United Kingdom and Sweden it was gold album.
In 1998 the album 'Gran Turismo' had an international release. The fifth album of The Cardigans came in the year 2003. The album was 'Long Gone Before Daylight'. The songs on the album were You're the Storm, No Sleep, And Then You Kissed Me, Live and Learn, A Good Horse, Lead Me into The Night, Feathers and Down, Communication , Please Sister, For What It's Worth and Couldn't Care Less.
