She was born on October 25, 1970 as Chely Wright Richelle Renee Wright at Wellsville, Kansas City. She is an American country music singer. As a 14 year old, she was a performer in local clubs with a band called County Line, with her father on bass. She even performed at Ozark Jubilee show and moved to Nashville's Opryland theme park in 1989 for the next three years. Soon this landed her a publishing deal with Mercury/Polydor clearly because of her songwriting.
That time was not far when Chely Wright broke through to become a number one star on the contemporary country scene. She released Woman in the Moon, her debut album in 1994 which was critically acclaimed, earning her a Top New Female Vocalist award from the ACM. Next came, Right in the Middle of It, in 1996 that did not earn her much rewards. Wright then moved over to MCA, where she had the fortune to work with the commercially savvy producer Tony Brown. Luck smiled on her once again in 1997 with the release of her third album, Let Me In, she had her first Top Twenty country hit with the song "Shut Up and Drive." Single White Female her fourth album, released in 1999, brought her a series of hit songs. Her perseverance was paying off in a positive way and earning her a growing fan base. Following year, she released "Hard to Be a Husband, Hard to Be a Wife" along with Brad Paisley. The duet was nominated for Vocal Event of the Year as part of the 35th Annual CMA Awards. Next she came up with, Never Love You Enough, her first album to register in the country Top Ten. This added another feather to her cap as she reached the Top 30 with the title track and "Jezebel."

It included both "The Bumper of My S.U.V." and "Back of the Bottom Drawer," along with ten additional songs. The Metropolitan Hotel earned her critical praise, particularly for the evocative song "The River." The video for this song unites her to her hometown as it is about a river called the Mardis De Cygnes that runs through Wellsville, became very popular among the masses on CMT.
Her hard work has won her many rewards. She received an ACM award for Top New Female Vocalist. She was a winner of BMI award for a song she penned for Clay Walker, a country artist. Currently, Wright is busy with her next album The Metropolitan Hotel. Her latest single, "C'est La Vie (You Never Can Tell)," was released to country radio in August 2005.
