Chemical Brothers
They entered international music arena in the 1990s and today have established themselves there as adhesive. The Chemical Brothers are followed enthusiastically wherever they go. Their fans very much outnumber their critics. Multitude of followers prey on their concert tickets.
An electronic music duo from the United Kingdom, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons formed The Chemical Brothers. They met at the University of Manchester. The duo started sampling Manchester's pulsating nightclub scene together during late 1990s, just at the zenith of Britain's attraction with a special style of DJing named Balearic. They are pioneers of the big beat electronic dance genre, and are known for high-quality live sets
"Song To The Siren" was released on their own record label, called "Diamond Records" using a Hitachi hi-fi system, a computer, a sampler and a keyboard. Their first remix was "Packet of Peace". Late in 1994, the duo completed work on their "14th Century Sky" EP, and released it. It contained the smashing "Chemical Beats" that epitomized the duo's genre defining big beat sound. The EP also had "One Too Many Mornings", that for the first time showed the passionate, more chilled-out side of The Chemical Brothers. "14th Century Sky" was followed by the "My Mercury Mouth" EP in 1993. The smashing "Chemical Beats" was also part of the soundtrack of the famous WipEout games series for the PlayStation in 1995.
They had a brief stint at Television with remix tracks of Manic Street Preachers and The Charlatans, Primal Scream's "Jailbird" and The Prodigy's "Voodoo People". This television exposure was play listed in 1995 by MTV Europe's "The Party Zone. In March 1995, their first international tour came up. In June 1995, they released their fourth single. "Leave Home" was released on Junior Boy's Own and became the band's first chart hit. In July 1995, they released their debut album Exit Planet Dust on Freestyle Dust/Junior Boy's Own. It featured amongst the top hits of the year and eventually over a million copies were sold worldwide. Their next single, "Life Is Sweet", in September 1995, used a guest vocalist, Tim Burgess. It was Select Magazine's Single of the Month for October and climbed to 25 in Single charts for the year. Just around Christmas of 1995, they played their biggest gig up to now, with The Prodigy, at the Brixton Academy. In January 1996 Exit Planet Dust went gold. They released the "Loops of Fury" EP with Virgin records. It scored 13th rank at the U.K charts. It was described by NME as "splashing waves of synths across hard-hitting beats."Exit Planet Dust" was listed at #39, by Select Magazine in February 1996.Another track "Setting Sun"(backed by a longer instrumental version) was released in October 1996 and topped the UK charts, giving the twosome their first ever Number One single. In March 1997, the duo released the second track from their next album, to give the world a taste of what to look forward to. "Block Rockin' Beats" straightaway topped in the UK. The NME declared it Single of the Week and applauded it," It throbs like your head might if you had just done a length underwater in a swimming pool full of amyl." Finally it got what it deserved, a Grammy award for Best Rock Instrumental.
In 1997, the duo released their second album, Dig Your Own Hole, with the title taken from paintings on the wall outside their London studio. The album was garrulously received everywhere. Mixmag rated it as the "Album of the Month". They became highly sought-after for remixes for other artists. In September, Elektrobank", single from Dig Your Own Hole, was released. The pair also played at Dublin's Point Theatre. At the end of the year, "The Private Psychedelic Reel", Dig Your Own Hole's final track, was released. This was among the top songs of that year.

"Hey Boy, Hey Girl" single was released in 1998 with some remixes." I Think Am In Love" from Spiritualized was the other remix track that came soon after. Both vocal and instrumental remix was included in the single release. Another remix produced by the duo was "Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp", from Mercury Rev. In September 1998, Brother's Gonna Work It Out , second album containing few of their own tracks and remixes, as also songs from other artists who have influenced their sound, was released. In May 1999, they released, a track called "Hey Boy, Hey Girl", which was inspired by nights out at Sheffield club "Gatecrasher". The track was one of their more commercially available tracks and soared to #3 in the UK charts.
Surrender, their third album was released in June 1999 featuring vocals from Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev), Noel Gallagher and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star). One of the album's stand out tracks, "Out Of Control" reached #1 in the UK album charts, and was well received by all and sundry. "Let Forever Be", a music video, depicting a young woman's nightmares, received a lot of attention bringing them laurels. Next "Out Of Control", was released as single containing Sasha remixes in November. In February 2000, the final single from Surrender, the five track "Music: Response" EP, containing two remixes, plus a new track, "Freak of the Week" and another one "Enjoyed was released. In December 2000, the duo aired, "It Began in Afrika" at their New York DJ gigs, in support of U2. It was enthusiastically received. In 2001, they began working on a fourth album, provisionally titled "Chemical Four". Its first track "It Began in Afrika", as previously played in their DJ set in New York. It was received with much acclaim along with another track "Galaxy Bounce". "It Began in Afrika" also became one of the "anthems" in Ibiza and soared to #8 in the UK singles chart. The Chemical Brothers also remixed a track,"Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars", entitled "Song For Shelter." The Brothers released, Come With us, in January 2002 featuring collaborations with Richard Ashcroft, and long-time collaborator Beth Orton. It featured graphic effects, the view from a train window at the passing scenery, with everything outside the train moving to the time of the music and sounds in the trackThe album went straight in at #1 in the UK album charts, selling 100,000 copies. During the summer of 2002, they released two EPs. Both contained remixes, live versions and B-sides. One aimed at Japan and the other the US entitling" American EP".
"Galaxy Bounce," a song from this album became very popular and featured as the main title music for Project Gotham Racing, the Xbox game. Their two other songs, Come With Us and Star Guitar, featured on a very popular game on the PS2 a racing game title WRC II.In September 2003, "The Golden Path", in collaboration with Wayne Coyne was released along with Singles 93-03, an album marking ten years of The Chemical Brothers' releases. "Get Yourself High"; quite similar to The Golden Path" was released as a single in November 2003. In summer 2004, they played new material, including "Acid Children", which proved to be one of the most admired new tracks.
In September 2004 The Chemical Brothers released the seventh Electronic Battle Weapon. "Electronic Battle Weapon 7" was being released as a one-sided promo-only 12", containing "Acid Children". It featured a distinctive vocal sample "You Are All My Children Now!" which is lifted from an old horror film, A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge. The Electronic Battle Weapon series of promo releases have typically been newly recorded Chemical Brothers tracks, released on promo to allow DJs to test them in a club environment, and to gauge their popularity.
In 2004, they began work on Push the Button, their fifth studio album, in collaboration with Tim Burgess, Anwar Superstar and Kele Okereke. The album was finally released in January 2005."Galvanize", featuring Q-Tip on vocals, was the first single from the album was released on January 17, 2005. It entered the UK chart at #3. The album and single "Galvanize" won a Grammy in 2006.
The duo is recognized as being one of the few truly arena-sized electronic acts. The two have also played at several major festivals as Glastonbury and Reading. The Brothers currently hold the record for most gigs performed in a year at the Brixton Academy. Their fans very much feel themselves as a part of the band.
