His producer Monroe Jones who would prove to be a lifelong partner and friend, helped to get him signed. It was Rice's songwriting abilities that attracted the record company executives and they couldn't have been more right- Rice would go on to become one the best lyricists in the Christian music industry.
In 1997 Rice released his first album Deep Enough To Dream which was immediately followed by Past The Edges. The albums did extraordinarily well and Rice soon found himself inundated with fans that were carried away by every one of his songs. As grateful as Rice was for the appreciation, his work with the youth of his community was suffering so Rice pulled back from the promo work of his next album.
Rice's music is marked by an earthy tone that is akin to artists like Travis and John Mayer while retaining a pop-drive to it as well. His songs touch on a number of themes, including finding that one's true place in the universe lies with God. He also speaks of the gratitude we should all feel for what God has given us and how we should maintain a balance in our lives.
