Yankee Stadium may be meant for baseball, but on December 30, 2010 the Kansas State Wildcats and the Syracuse Orange will be playing the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The college football bowl game will provide New Era Pinstripe Bowl tickets for a rare postseason game north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
The Kansas State Wildcats, coached by Bill Snyder, finished the 2010 college football season 7-5 and 3-5 in the Big 12. They come to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl having finished in third place in the North Division in the Big 12. They averaged 172.8 passing yards and 206 rushing yards a game (20th), which resulted in 33.6 points a game (25th). The Wildcats also allowed 28.5 points a game, thus the 7-5 record.
Kansas State had its share of leaders, but none as important as running back Daniel Thomas. Thomas ran for 1,495 yards and 16 touchdowns, picking up 5.4 yards a carry. The Wildcats do pass the football a little though. Quarterback Carson Coffman threw for 1,832 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Syracuse Orange, coached by Doug Marrone, finished the season 7-5 and 4-3 in the Big East. Syracuse was not an offensive powerhouse. The Orange scored just 21 points a game, averaging 178 passing yards and 130.3 rushing yards. If there is an offensive player to note, it is running back Delone Carter. Carter ran for 1,035 yards and 7 touchdowns. The defense is what kept this team in the game, allowing just 18.1 points a game (13th).
