Arizona coach Mike Stoops said his team is thrilled to receive the bid; the Wildcats, who lost in overtime to eventual Pac-10 champion Oregon at home on November 21, regrouped to defeat both Arizona State and USC on the road. In the 2008 Holiday Bowl, it was Oregon who raced to a 42-31 victory past Oklahoma State, allowing the Ducks to join other past Holiday Bowl champions, such as the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, and California Golden Bears.
