Both Bowling Green and Idaho rank among the NCAA leaders in passing offense; the Falcons are ranked 8th with 310 yards per game, with the Vandals 11th at 290 yards per game. Look for this game to add to the history of exciting Humanitarian Bowl finishes – since its inception in 1997, the average score has been 38-25, and always seems to deliver exciting and memorable experiences for players and fans alike. Featuring two of the more potent offenses in the country, this year's game promises to be a high-scoring affair – Idaho is averaging nearly 32 points a game, while Bowling Green is averaging just over 27. Bowling Green and Idaho both boast several players who are not only in the hunt for several national awards, but projected for successful NFL careers as well. BGSU's Freddie Barnes is the nation's leader in receptions per game with 11.5, and is only five receptions shy of the NCAA Football Bowl Series single-season receiving record of 142. Additionally, senior quarterback Tyler Sheehan is Bowling Green's all-time leader in pass completions with 914, 5th in the nation in passing efficiency with a 155.8 rating, and 17th in passing yards per game with 266.6. On the other side of field, it is the Vandals' quarterback, Nathan Enderle, who is protected by senior guard Mike Iupati, a finalist for the Outland Trophy which is awarded to college football's most outstanding interior lineman. With amazing college gridiron action and lots of the extra festivities that go along with putting on a special postseason bowl game, these events tend to take on a life all their own.
