The TCU Horned Frogs have sported a college football team since 1896. I know this seems unlikely, but equally unlikely is the reality that the Horned Frogs have won two national championships. Why is this hard pill to swallow? Well those two national championships came back in 1935 and 1938. For those championships kick started three decades of college football dominance. TCU spent those dominant years in the Southwest Conference and had their success under the reign of three coaches: Francis Schmidt, Dutch Meyer, and Abe Martin. The Horned Frogs began a long conference championship drought in the late 1960s. Luckily, the turn of the century has been a fortuitous turn for the Frogs. Since hiring defensive coordinator Gary Patterson as head coach in 2000 the TCU Horned Frogs have won four conference championships, one in Conference USA and three in the Mountain West Conference.
