The Cotton Bowl may have moved on to Cowboys Stadium, but the Cotton Bowl venue will not go unused this college football bowl season. TicketCity Bowl tickets are being sold for the January 1, 2011 game between the Northwestern Wildcats and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are coached by Tommy Tuberville. Tuberville's team went 7-5 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders finished second to last in the ultra-competitive South Diviison, but still managed to qualify for the TicketCity Bowl. The team scored 32.1 points a game, passing for 314.8 yards and 137.8 rushing yards a game. Quarterback Taylor Potts threw for 3,357 yards and 31 touchdowns. He completed 65.9 percent of his passes, mainly to wide receivers Lyle Leong (64 receptions, 808 yards, 17 touchdowns) and Detron Lewis (79 receptions, 803 yards, 6 touchdowns). Texas Tech allows an obscene amount of points though, 30.3 points a game.
The Northwestern Wildcats are coached by Pat Fitzgerald. They come into the TicketCity Bowl with identical overall and conference records. They scored 25.4 points a game and allowed 27.7 points a game. The Wildcats pass for 242.6 passing yards and 149.8 rushing yards a game. With quarterback Dan Persa out with an injury to his Achilles tendon, Freshman Evan Watkins must improve upon his two-game performance to end the 2010 college football regular season.
