According to the Census that was held in the year 2000, “there were 5,402 people, 1,897 households and 1,365 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,244.0 people per square mile (1,248.9/km²). There were 2,016 housing units at an average density of 1,210.7/sq mi (466.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 68.66% White, 0.30% Black or African American, 1.76% Native American, 1.46% Asian, 0.78% Pacific Islander, 23.29% from other races and 3.76% from two or more races. 41.71% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,897 households out of which 40.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present and 28.0% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.33.”
