Japan also recorded five complete studio albums during the period of March 1978 and November 1981. Each of their recordings being essentially more sophisticated than the last. Their single biggest hit single, the remarkable minimalist 'Ghosts' even reached the Top spot in the renowned UK charts in the year 1982. After a hugely successful tour, they fragmented during the year 1982. Sylvian's first solo album is a collaborated effort with Ryuichi Sakamoto. His debut solo album titled Brilliant Trees 1984, and was met with substantial critical acclaim. His next follow-up was also an ambitious and acclaimed two-record set, titled Gone to Earth in the year 1986 which essentially flouted convention. His next album titled Secrets of the Beehive released in the year 1987 was essentially more acoustic and had emotive ballads which were laced with shimmering string arrangements. It went on to yield probably one of Sylvian's most liked and well-received songs titled "Orpheus."
