The Mc5 (Motor City 5) – a protopunk band – originated in Detroit, USA in the year 1964.The band comprised of Rob Tyner the lead vocalist, Wayne Kramer the guitarist, Michael Davis the bassist, Dennis Thompson the drummer and Fred Smith the guitarist. They released their debut album in the year 1968 titled "Kick out the Jams". It was released on Elektra Records. They broke up with Elektra due to some differences in opinion. They then signed up with Atlantic Records. They released their second album titled "Back in the USA" followed by their third album "High Time". The year 1972 saw Michael Davis quit the band. Subsequently the band broke up due to some personal problems.

They now call themselves DKT/Mc5.The band has been touring and giving live performances at various places. Their live shows have been well received with their hard core fans still looking forward to the live shows of the band inspite of the long break.
