The name Duffy may mean little to the typical American, but she is a huge pop star across the Atlantic Ocean in Great Britain. She has sold millions of pounds worth of Duffy tickets in the UK and hopes to begin to establish herself as a mainstream star in the States with her latest album, Endlessly.
She was born on June 23, 1984 in Nefyn, Wales. Her early life was troubling to say the least. Duffy, whose full name is actually Aimee Ann Duffy, endured a common, yet still troubling split in the family: her parents divorced. This would not be the worst though. At the age of 13 she took harbor in a safe house as the police stopped an assassin her father's ex-wife had paid to kill him. She would run away from the safe house, fleeing back to her father, upsetting her mother and sisters in the process.
Duffy the musician developed from a love affair with music beginning at the age of six. She developed a taste for soul music after watching the movie Sister Act. This is not the most respectable story of a budding musician, but she would become a notable act nonetheless.
She sang with local bands in Wales and even spent a year in Switzerland during her teen years. Her appearance on a Welsh television talent show Wawffactor sparked her interest in remaining true to herself, perhaps because she came in second. Duffy released the three-track EP while working in the sludge as a waitress and fishmonger. Her big break came in 2007. She signed with A&M Records and performed on the BBC program Later with Jools Holland.
