‘East Lansing’ is a major city of Michigan State in the USA. It is situated in the east of Lansing in Michigan, which is the capital of this state. A bigger portion of this city is within the Ingham County but a smaller area comes under Clinton County. The city is renowned as home to the Michigan State University.

This city was settled in 1847. Its downtown area was a rendezvous of two major Native American trails – the Okemah Road and the Park Lake Trail. The Lansing and Howell Plank Road Company were established here in 1850. They connected a toll road to the Detroit and Howell Plank Road. It was planned to improve infrastructure between Detroit and Lansing. Work on toll road finished in 1853.

The city prohibited possession, sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages in a charter of 1907. Since then East Lansing became famous as ‘dry’ city until a new charter modified this provision in 1968. The US Census Bureau estimates that this city has a total area of 11.25 square miles, of which 11.24 square miles is land and 0.02 km² is water.

East Lansing is currently in three 425 Agreements with Bath Township including DeWitt Township and Meridian Township. It has effectively added thousands of acres of land to its border. According to the 2000 census, the city has the population of 46,525. Out of them, 29,329 are university students accounting for 63% of the total population. This city has 14,390 households and 5,094 families. Its population density is 4,136.6 per square mile. The city has 15,321 housing units at an average density of 1,362.2/sq mi.

The racial makeup of this city is 80.91% Whites, 7.40% African Americans, 0.33% Native Americans, 8.21% Asians, 0.08% Pacific Islanders, 0.95% from other races and 2.12% from two or more races. Its Hispanic or Latino population is 2.69% of the total population. The sex ratio of this city is 92.7 males for every 100 females, whereas it has 91.7 males for every 100 females aged 18 and above.
