Eddie Vedder is best known as the lead singer of alternative rock legends Pearl Jam, but he also occasionally ventures out on his own. This is one of those times and now Eddie Vedder tickets are being sold in 2011 to catch the singer as he tour to promote his 2011 album Ukulele Songs.
Ukulele Songs
The new album is due out on May 31, 2011 and Eddie Vedder has populated the song list with a combination of original and cover songs all performed on the ukulele. It may seem an unlikely choice, but the Pearl Jam front man is known for his ability to surprise and challenge the norm (as evident by the famous Ticketmaster feud). Most of the original tracks are songs Eddie Vedder wrote nearly a decade ago.
In addition to the new solo album, Eddie Vedder is releasing a concert DVD of a 2009 solo concert in which he sings some Pearl Jam material, covers, a few songs from his work for the "Into the Wild" soundtrack and even some Ukulele Songs tracks.
The Future of Pearl Jam
To be clear, Ukulele Songs is a side project for Eddie Vedder. Pearl Jam is still a group of solidarity; they just encourage and support each other on their side projects. So, according to a Billboard article, Pearl Jam is to begin putting studio time very soon as soon as Vedder returns from his Australia tour leg in to record the follow up to "Backspacer".
Pearl Jam is also planning a mini-festival around Labor Day weekend to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Cameron Crowe will be on hand to direct the documentary "Pearl Jam Twenty". The documentary will be accompanied by a book.
