‘Elmont’ is a hamlet cum bedroom suburb of Nassau County in New York. Situated in the northwestern part of Hempstead, this village is home to Belmont Park Race Track. It houses many tree-lined streets, parks, old churches & temples, cultural festivals, parades and restaurants.

Christopher and Thomas Foster took possession of a large plot of land here in 1650. This region was named Foster’s Meadow. Long Island got divided into three counties namely Kings, Queens and Suffolk Counties in 1683. Foster’s Meadow was part of Queens County under the new structure. Its current boundaries were formed in 1898. Foster’s Meadow had a second paradigm shift with the cultural uplifts in the 19th century.

This region had its major political reshuffle in 1882. It was subdivided into districts. Ultimately Foster’s Meadow was renamed to Elmont that had most significant milestone in the development of modern-day Elmont. It has been now developed at the Belmont Racetrack in 1905.

Elmont had a turning point in its history in 1905 with the opening of Belmont Racetrack. Many farms were subdivided into houses. Countless business firms were formed on Hempstead Turnpike that supported the suburban location. Belmont Racetrack had the distinction to organize the first air race of the USA. It had its first intercity airmail service between New York and Washington, D.C. in 1918.

According to 2000 census, this city has 33,657 inhabitants, 10,842 families and 12,902 households. It has the population density of 9,589.9 per square mile. This city has 10,151 housing units at an average density of 2,980.9/sq mi. Its racial makeup is 45.56% Whites, 34.69% African Americans, 0.43% Native Americans, 9.09% Asians, 0.08% Pacific Islanders, 5.69% from other races, 4.45% from two or more races and 14.31% Hispanic or Latino race.

The sex ratio of this city is 90.3 males for every 100 females. It has 84.9 males for every 100 females aged 18 and above. The census bureau estimates that Elmont has a total area of 3.4 square miles. Its entire area is land.
