‘Elon,’ formerly known as Elon College, is a main town in Alamance County of North Carolina in the USA. This city is part of the Burlington in North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. This city is home to the Elon University. The city was famous as ‘Elon College’ until its college known as Elon College turned into Elon University. It officially renamed itself to Elon thereafter.

Western Alamance High School, Western Middle School, Altamahaw-Ossipee Elementary School and Elon Elementary are the local public schools in Elon. Its local school system is famous as the Alamance-Burlington School System that was developed by a merger between the Alamance County School System and the Burlington City School System in 1996.

According to 2000 census, this city has 6,738 inhabitants, 1,903 households and 1,141 families residing in the city circles. Its population density is 1,991.7 people per square mile.
