‘Encino’ district of Los Angeles in California is situated in the central portion of southern San Fernando Valley. This American city derives its name from a parcel of land, Rancho Los Encinos that was once donated by three Mission Indians of Spanish government following an abandonment of California mission in early 1800.

Rancho Encino was established in 1845. A portion of the Los Angeles River running through Encino is one of the two unpaved areas necessitated by high water table. It is bordered by Tarzana in west, Sepulveda Dam Recreation in north, Sherman Oaks in east and Encino Reservoir of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in south.

Encino was home to a massive California Live Oak Tree, famous as Encino Oak. There are assumptions that this city was named after that particular tree. It was also known for both size and longevity. This tree died on February 7, 1998 after an El Niño Storm felling it. According to the 2000 census, Encino has 40,946 inhabitants. Its population density is 3,864.9 per square mile, and racial makeup is 89.90% Whites, 1.78% African Americans, 4.38% Asians, 0.19% Native Americans, 4.13% others and 4.62% Hispanic.

An arsonist had set fire to Tom Petty's house in Encino in 1987. The fire caused $1 million damage but the firefighters were able to salvage its basement recording studio. Several original tapes were stored here, as well as his Gibson Dove acoustic guitar. Frank Zappa mentioned Encino in the hit song of 1982 titled Valley Girl. Jackson family owned a mansion on Hayvenhurst Ave. in Encino since March 1971, where Michael and Janet grew up. Ashlee Simpson wed rocker Pete Wentz at an intimate ceremony at her parents' home in Encino on May 17, 2008.

It was way back in 1963 that Encino Velodrome provided an outdoor oval bicycle racing track in Encino City.
