‘Englewood’ is a famous city of Bergen County in New Jersey, the USA. This city was incorporated as a city by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 17, 1899. It was carved out from the portions of Ridgefield Township and the rest of the portions of Englewood Township. Englewood Township was dissolved after the creation of the City of Englewood.

Starting in 1980, Englewood switched from a Mayor-Council form of government to a modified Council-Manager plan in accordance with a Special Charter that was being granted by the New Jersey Legislature. The present City Council setup consists of five members that include four elected members from the wards of roughly equal population and one additional member being elected at large. The City Manager looks into the administrative responsibilities of the city.

Englewood has the distinction of being a ‘first’ in the USA where telephone industry was introduced for the first time as Direct distance dialing (DDD) process. It was the biggest leap of this city in the national spectrum.

According to 2000 census, this city has 26,203 inhabitants, 9,273 households sand 6,481 families. Its population density is 5,322.0 people per square mile. The city has 9,614 housing units at an average density of 1,952.7/sq mi. Its racial makeup is 42.49% Whites, 38.98% African Americans, 0.27% Native Americans, 5.21% Asians, 0.05% Pacific Islanders, 8.50% from miscellaneous races, 4.50% from two or more races and 21.76% from Hispanic or Latino race. Approximately 7.17% of the residents of Englewood are of Colombian American ancestry.

The sex ratio of this city is 88.7 males for every 100 females, whereas there is 84.2 males for every 100 females aged 18 and above. This city has a total area of 12.8.km², out of which 4.9 square miles is land and 0.20% is water.
