Artist Biography - Espy Awards

 A part of the money earned from the sale of tickets is donated to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, a charity whose founder was late Jim Valvano. His aim to start the charity was to find cure for the deadly disease. Jim Valvano was once the head coach of the North Carolina State University Wolfpack. He is best remembered for winning the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship game by defeating the favorites of everyone
University of Houston Cougars. In 1992 he left the North Carolina State after he became a broadcaster. Same year he was diagnosed with a form cancer known as Metastatic Adenocarcinoma. The doctors told him that he just one year more. But Valvano put up a brave front and continued with his work as long as he could. On 3rd March, 1993 the first EPSY Awards were telecasted. In the ceremony Jim Valvano announced the formation of
V Foundation. His unfortunate death came on 28th April, 1993. In addition there is also the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, which is awarded to a one sports personality who had fought all difficulties and adversities or anyone who has contributed towards humanity in a way that excelled sports.
In 2005 the ESPY awards were hosted by Actor Mathew Perry and in 2004 the honorable job was done by the comedian Jamie Foxx. But the 2006 EPSY awards saw the famous American road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong as the host. The ceremony took place on 16th July on ESPN. Lance who had for three consecutive years from 2003-2006 won the award of Best Male Athlete. He was the first athlete to perform this job. During the ceremony he jokingly remarked about the French 2006 Soccer World Cup team " All their players tested positive... for being assholes". The sponsors of 2006 EPSY awards were GMC and Under Armour.The other awards were won by Annika Sörenstam of Sweden for golf as best female athlete, Chris Paul from New Orleans Hornets as the breakthrough athlete, Tedy Bruschi from New England Patriots the Comeback Athlete, Albert Pujuls from St. Louis Cardinals as the Outstanding performer, Disables sports by Sarah Reinertsen and International athlete by Albert Pujuls for baseball .
