The irresistible Lemonheads were originally formed by Evan Dando and the remarkable Ben Deily, at the reputed Commonwealth School in Boston in the year 1986. Initially they played very snotty kind of punk rock, and for a while were briefly known as the Whelps. They changed name in 1987 which led to the birth of the group Lemonheads, as metaphor of a candy which Dando poignantly noted was very sweet on the outside and quite sour on the inside and accurately defined the band's sound. Their initial recording as a group was named "Laughing All the Way…" Dando then enrolled himself at Skidmore College, but his grades deteriorated and he dropped out to pursue a successful career as a musician. Having managed to sign on to local label called Taang! The Lemonheads soon released the albums "titled Hate Your Friends", the remarkable "Creator," and "Lick". In all these albums Deily and Dando were on lead vocals and shared songwriting duties until about the year 1989, when Dando left the band. Dando then went on recruit David Ryan on drums, and was eventually signed to major label Atlantic/Warner. Thus the album Lovey was produced in 1990. It was compilation straddling punk, rock effortlessly with country, and metal. Shame about Ray is recalled as the Lemonheads' major breakthrough album. The band enjoyed remarkable on college radio, and even some modest mainstream exposure. "Come on Feel the Lemonheads" got released in late half of 1993. This was a hugely successful album. The Lemonheads then continued to tour during 1994. Dando managed to famously befriended Oasis and even appeared at some of the band's live shows.
