The Festival of Drums is celebrated in Sri-Lanka annually. The event is somewhat equal to UK's Glastonbury Festival and includes concerts in Kandy and Colombo. This event attracts world's most talented master drummers and percussionists. The island celebrates its 2500-year association with drums, an intrinsic part of their culture and heritage. The festival showcases at least 14 different groups and artists from 12 different including Bill Cobham (USA), The Dhol Foundation (UK and India) and the Drummers of Burundi. The festival is a beautiful coordination of the local drumming and dancing performance that have a distinct Sri Lankan flavor, reflecting the huge cultural diversity of traditions throughout the country.
In the year 2005, the festival featured an outdoor concert at the Royal Peradeniya Botanical Gardens in Kandy; four indoor theater concerts at Bishop's College Auditorium and four Club Night Sessions at The Gallery, Beira Lake in the capital Colombo. Workshops were also held during the day at The Gallery, so that the festival-goers can have the opportunity to meet and learn from the artists.
