The Fleet Foxes are the Seattle five-piece band that has become a critical success and has used MySpace to drive its commercial success. The five-piece began as a two piece in Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington. Rubin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset bonded over a shared enjoyment of Bob Dylan and Neil Young despite the contrast in personalities. Pecknold was confident while Skjelset was quiet and shy. Together, Pecknold became the lead singer and song writer while Skjelset became the lead guitarist. In the end the group became Fleet Foxes and soon they would expand the band and sell tickets all over the world.
The group's late-sixties pop style resonated with producer Phil Elk, who helped them record a demo in 2006. The demo and MySpace presence that got them invited to perform SXSW. The expanded group blew producers and music executives away. Sub Pop signed them in the States and Bella Union handled their UK business. With only two EPs to show for their work while they began to sell out concert tickets, the group took the next step and recorded a full-length album.
