Fosterchild was formed in collaboration with Jim Foster of Vancouver and Vern Wills of Calgary. Jim Foster is considered to be one of the best singer, songwriter and the guitarist of his times. His solo album which was released in the year 1986, eventually won him a Award at the West Coast Music Awards in Vancouver. The song "X-Ray Eyes" for which he received the Award got very popular amongst the audiences. Jim Foster has also written several songs for Doug & The Slugs, One Horse Blue and Patricia.
Formation of Fosterchild happened when both Jim and Vern met each other at Calgary's Haunted House, playing for their respective groups. Wills was not happy with idea of performing in bar bands and therefore he planned to shift to New York to join Walkers. But, unfortunately he couldn't do so, because his Visa didn't get renewal. Therefore, the artist patched up with Jim to form their independent band Fosterchild. The band's aspirations came true when they signed a record deal with CBS Records.

The duo released three albums in the beginning of 80's under the same label, which did not work well on the music charts. Later on Jim became the member of One Horse Blue in 1990's. Jim Foster has also worked with artists such as Murray McLaughlin, Rocko Vaugeois and Lyndia Scott, for whom he has co-written several tunes even before he started with his independent band.
The band came up with their first full length, self titled album in 1977. The album contained elements of country/rock with hit single such as "until We Meet Again" which stormed the audiences with its reverberating effect across Canada. Several other albums like " Magic Is In The Air" and "I Need Somebody Tonight" gained popularity worldwide, making Wills and Foster as one of the best in enchanting solid rock tunes combined with a country base.
